ISPS is the largest community of statisticians in the country imparting statistical education, research, consultancy and propagation statistical science since its inception in the year 1981 at Sri Venkateswara University, Tirupati, AP. The ISPS excelled in the development, application, and dissemination of statistical science through its annual conventions covering east to west, south to north in the country  at various university centers coming up with its membership, publications, conduct of workshops/seminars, conferences  and in advocating the importance of statistics education. The vision of ISPS is to create a world for reliable and scientific decisions that relies on data and statistical thinking while its mission is to propagate and promote Statistics and data driven approaches for sustainable development through practice.

It is also needed to elevate public awareness of the role of statistics and the benefits of engaging statisticians and in this direction the ISPS is thriving hard in taking statistics education and its importance to the general public doorstep, highlighting the digital platforms and social media in enhancing the statistical profile and particularly focuses its objective in coming-up with collaborative relationships with other statistical associations and forums all over the universe.

The society is striving hard to establish new trends and much needed modern science and technological approaches with particular focus on Data Science for study and applications of statistical science by way of organizing many workshops, training programs and annual conventions. The ISPS also publishes its research journal “Journal of the Indian Society for Probability and Statistics” through Springer publishers. ISPS organizes many academic events / competitions at its conventions namely: Memorial Lectures. Endowment Lectures Distinguished Statistician Award Best Research Paper Award. Young Statistician Award Best Ph.D. Thesis Award M.Sc. Student Project Competition.
